Do not automatically update theme

If you see a notice to automatically update Business Pro upon installation, DO NOT update the theme. This is a WordPress bug caused by another theme in the theme repository with the same name. If you have accidentally updated the theme, please delete the theme and reupload it. Then simply ignore the upgrade notice and it will disappear.

Installing the Genesis Framework and Business Pro follows the same process for installing any WordPress theme, except that you have to do it twice! First, you install the Genesis Framework and then you install Business Pro. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Themes from the WordPress menu
  2. Click Add New
  3. Click Upload Theme
  4. Click Choose File, find and select your zipped copy of the Genesis Framework on your computer
  5. Click Install Now

After installing the Genesis Framework, you can now install Business Pro. It's the same process you've just gone through to install the Genesis Framework:

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Themes from the WordPress menu
  2. Click Add New
  3. Click Upload Theme
  4. Click Choose File, find and select your zipped copy of Business Pro on your computer Click Install Now
  5. Lastly, click Activate in order to immediately start using Business Pro

After you've installed both the Genesis Framework and Business Pro, you're ready to activate your theme. It is not necessary to activate the Genesis Framework theme as it will run quietly in the background. Be sure the Genesis Framework is installed before you activate Business Pro.

Upon activating the theme, you will see a notice in the admin to install the recommended plugins.

Business pro recommended plugins

Business Pro is optimized to work with the following plugins. Before you begin, you will need to install and activate them. Click on the Begin installing plugins link and follow the steps to install and activate all of the recommended plugins.

  • Business Profile
  • Display Posts Shortcode
  • Genesis Connect for WooCommerce (if WooCommerce is active)
  • Genesis eNews Extended
  • Genesis Testimonial Slider
  • Genesis Portfolio Pro
  • Genesis Simple Share
  • Genesis Widget Column Classes
  • Icon Widget
  • Simple Social Icons
  • Widget Importer and Exporter
  • WordPress Importer
  • WooCommerce (optional)
  • WP Featherlight

To begin activating these plugins, click on the Begin installing plugins option. A new screen with each plugin listed will be displayed, check the box for each plugin to install and then select Install from the dropdown box. The successful installation screen will be displayed. At the bottom, click on the Return TO PLUGINS option. Again select each of the plugins that you just installed and click Activate. Once all recommended plugins have been Installed and Activated you are ready to move on to the next step of importing the demo content.

Skip this step if you are not using WooCommerce.

When you install the WooCommerce plugin, a setup wizard will appear on the screen. Click 'Let's Go' to begin. The first step is for the Page Setup. This step is not required if you have imported themes demo content as it includes the necessary WooCommerce pages. Click Skip this step and continue with the rest of the setup wizard as normal. Important: If skipping the Page Setup step, you will need to manually assign the Shop, Cart and Checkout pages. To do this please follow the below steps:

  1. Install WooCommerce and Genesis Connect for WooCommerce plugins
  2. IMPORT DEMO CONTENT (See below)
  3. Navigate to WooCommerce > Settings
  4. Navigate to the 'Products' tab
  5. Click the 'Display' link
  6. Select 'Shop' as the 'Shop Page' from the dropdown menu
  7. Click 'Save changes'
  8. Navigate to the 'Checkout' tab
  9. Assign the Checkout Pages (Cart, Checkout, Terms and Conditions)
  10. Click 'Save changes' again

Demo Content

Before installing the demo content, it is strongly recommended to delete any existing content on your site that is not required including Posts, Pages, Comments and Widgets. Business Pro comes with all of the content used in the demo.

Sample Content

Once the theme and recommended plugins have been installed you are ready to upload the sample content. To upload the demo content navigate to Tools > Import > WordPress > Run Importer. Click Choose file and select the sample.xml file included with the theme. Follow the steps and the demo post content will be imported. If you see a 'Failed to import' notice for some items, that is normal. WordPress can't import media files.

Images used in the theme demo are not imported and have to be manually uploaded to posts, pages and portfolio items.

Widget Content

Remove all existing unwanted widgets before importing demo widget content.

Navigate to Tools > Widget Importer & Exporter. Click the Choose file button and then select the widgets.wie file that is included with your theme then click Import Widgets. Once this has been uploaded you should see a success message of the imported widgets. You should also ensure that any existing widgets are in the correct widget area. You may also need to set the menu for the Custom Menu widget in the Footer Widgets widget area.
